The sixth generation of German sedan Mercedes -Benz S -Class has been officially unveiled and the equipment it includes makes the new S -Class a remarkable standard in safety technology.

So, let’s see which are the most important technologies that were mounted on the Mercedes- Benz S Class, in a top ten.

Visual information provided by the equipment on the machine is no longer intended only for part of the systems, but are available for virtually all restraints on the machine. In other words, data from radars mounted on the machine can be used as adaptive cruise control system and for the systems that deal with the detection of possible accidents.

The new Mercedes -Benz S -Class gets a 3D camera mounted near the rearview mirror that scans in detail the conditions of the road for the next 50 meters. One of the functions performed by this camera is to send information to the “brain” of the central electronic machine that instantly changes the suspension settings to provide a more comfortable ride.

Passengers in the rear of the new S -Class have inflatable seatbelts that automatically inflate in a crash to lower the risk of injuries to the upper body. The belts can increase their size three times and help distribute the impact forces acting on the occupant of the back seat.

Yes, it sounds strange, but the S -Class that has in the individual rear seats, airbags for the buttocks that inflates when the backrests are tilted and the car is involved in an accident.

Previous -generation of Mercedes- Benz S -Class has a cruise control automatically controlling the throttle even when stopped at traffic lights. This meant that the driver no longer had to keep his foot on the accelerator.

Now the sixth generation comes with a Distronic Plus system, which is part of a sub- Assist Steering and Stop & Go Pilot. So, the machine uses a 3D camera to track the car in front and control the acceleration and direction. The result is an autopilot system that can easily steer the car without the driver keeping the hands on the wheel. In other words, the car is capable of driving itself.

The new S -Class headlights contain two infrared light sources that illuminate the way for the system to provide visual data for the Night View Assist Plus system.

Why would you need infrared? Well, for the driver to have a much more relevant image when driving at night on an unlighted road.

7. Two diagonal TFT 30.7 cm screens

The car interior is airy from a visual point of view, most information is provided to the driver by means of the two diagonal TFT 30.7 cm screens, which dominate the dashboard, providing info on the speedometer, rev counter, images from night infrared cameras and other important information for the driver, as well as multimedia system and map navigation and machine settings.

8. Permanent beam headlights

The Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus system the new S -Class can maintain road lights on continuously, without dazzling other drivers. So, basically the lights mask cars coming from the opposite direction. The driver no longer has to shift between the long and the short beam.

Mercedes -Benz S -Class gets the automatic braking system BAS Plus with Cross -Traffic Assist. Essentially these two systems can detect a potential accident and automatically brake the car to avoid the accident. The novelty of the sixth generation is that is detects not only frontal accidents, but also side collisions.

10. The first production car with no conventional bulbs

The new Mercedes -Benz S -Class is the first car in the world that does not have even one conventional bulb, either filament or economical. Instead, engineers chose to use almost 500 LEDs to illuminate the road, the interior and the car itself.

Of the nearly 500 LEDs, 56 are used for each light individually, 35 for each stop lamp and about 300 for interior lighting including ambient lighting. The new S -Class automatically adjusts lights not to blind cars that are stopped at traffic lights, for example.
