Worst Christmas Movies to Spice Up Your Holidays
10. Santa Buddies (2009)
Santa Buddies is the fourth film in the Air Buddies spin-off series. It’s inspired by the Air Bud franchise (which had nine films!), and it’s surely something we need to include on our list. The idea of the movie is that dogs replace humans in this Christmas movie. It may have sounded like fun if the production weren’t so bad. However, if you love puns, you’ll love the heading of the movie: ‘The Legend of Santa Paws’. Some people may find it cute, but it’s still a must-have on our list.
9. Christmas Caper (2007)
One of the worst Christmas movies is Christmas Caper, released in 2007. It relies on the common trope of the criminal who makes a stupid mistake right at the beginning of the movie. Cate Dove, played by Shannen Doherty, need to lay low for a while, so she goes back to her hometown to chill with her family. We don’t want to spoil the plot for you, in case you want to watch it, but there are some other foolish mistakes the police does as well.
8. Prancer (1989)
The story with Prancer is quite simple. The main character is Jessica, a young girl played by Rebecca Harrell Tickell. After her mother dies, she and her father grow apart emotionally. However, everything changes when the girl finds a wounded reindeer in the forest. She thinks it fell from Santa’s sleigh, and through a Christmas miracle, the two start to reconnect with each other. Quite a predictable plot, but it’s a good option if you want to let your mind roam while pretending to watch the TV screen.
7. Just Friends (2005)
It may seem hard to believe that one of the worst Christmas movies ever made has Ryan Reynolds as the main character, but here it goes. The action in Just Friends takes place around Christmas, but it seems it’s not quite the typical movie. Reynolds is an overweight nerd who tries to get into Amy Smart’s pants. The entire movie is, in fact, a comment on the entire friendzone topic.
6. Fred Claus (2007)
We can already start calling Vince Vaughn one of the kings of the worst Christmas movies ever. Let’s start by having a look at Fred Claus, where he stars together with Paul Giamatti, Rachel Weisz, and Kathy Bates. Some say this movie isn’t that bad for a Christmas movie, but the reviews are mostly negative. Here, Santa Claus is shown as having an immortal younger brother, and the trope of the eternal family competition surfaces.
5. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (2002)
Quite a naughty title for a movie, so we wonder what did Santa put the producers on the nice or naughty list. Just as the title says, you’ll see that Connie Sellecca, Cole Sprouse, and Corbin Bernsen bring to life a story where a kid sees his mother kissing Santa Claus. Spoiler alert: in I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Santa wasn’t Santa, but his dad dressed as Santa. Shocking, we know. All year long, the little boy tries to be as naughty as possible to keep the old man away.
4. Jingle All the Way (2006)
Directed by Brian Levant, Jingle All the Way presents Arnold Schwarzenegger in quite an unusual position. It I quite interesting if you look at it from this point of view, and you may be convinced to watch it after you learn that Arnold improvised a lot of his lines in the movie. Sinbad and Phil Hartman also co-star in this great masterpiece designed to make your Christmas better.
3. Four Christmases (2008)
And we’re back to Vince Vaughn again. Once again, he stars in a romantic Christmas comedy, Four Christmases, this time together with Reese Witherspoon, Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight, and others. What some people appreciate about this movie is the fact that it shows bits of real life, for example when the two argue about Christmas and family. The plot shows us a mundane couple trying to reach the families of each of their divorced parents on Christmas. Obviously, they get into a lot of trouble and must face the relatives they despise.
2. Surviving Christmas (2004)
The second place on our list of the worst Christmas movies ever made is occupied by Surviving Christmas. Here, we can see Ben Affleck playing a rich advertising executive who is a horrible person. So horrible that he pays the people who live in his old house to play his family role. Surprisingly, you can see James Gandolfini and Catherine O’Hara also play in this movie, which seems a little bit off.
1. Christmas with the Kranks (1988)
Probably one of the most popular Christmas movies ever, Christmas with the Kranks has a new take on the festive spirit. Even though it’s almost 15 years old, you can still watch it on cable TV around the winter holidays. Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis play Nora and Luther Krank, a couple who decides to quit Christmas one year and to spend the money on a cruise instead. The small community around them is shocked by their decision, and they are forced to change their mind when their daughter comes home to visit.
Our top 10 worst Christmas movies ever made, in case you’re up for a cringy holiday marathon, may not coincide with yours. Some people claim that part of these movies manage to show the true meaning of Christmas (even if it’s the same in all of them). Let’s just hope you won’t turn into Grinch by the time you’d have finished watching all these movies, otherwise, you might need to start a new top with the worst Grinch movies ever.
