Do we have some dangerous beauty habits that need to go as soon as possible? Read on and learn about the 10 most common hygiene mistakes and how to fix them.
10. Cleaning Everything with the Same Sponge
Are you one of those people who use one sponge for the entire bathroom? Same sponge for cleaning the mirror, bathtub and toilet? Then you should change your ways, because you’re doing some very dangerous cross-contamination there. Use different sponges for different chores and don’t forget to clean your sponge after the job is done. A very efficient method of doing that is to microwave them; it kills 99.9% of the germs present in it!
9. Not Washing Hangs After Using the Bathroom
This had to be mentioned on our list, because it’s still something that some people still don’t do. We don’t live in caves; we live in a society that forces us to interact with people on a daily basis. Out of respect for them, if not for yourself, please wash your hands after you use the bathroom.
8. Using a Blunt Razor
You need to remember to change your disposable razors after a couple of uses, otherwise you risk cutting yourself. Men and women, don’t keep your razors for too long, because those nips aren’t only painful, but also a great environment for infection and bacteria to sneak in and have a party.
7. Washing Your Face with Soap in the Morning
This is one of the most common hygiene mistakes. Washing your face with soap in the morning is like telling your body that you know better than it does. It spends all night long, producing good oils to that keep your skin smooth and protected and you go and strip that away with soap. You should try using just water if your face is particularly greasy and only use soap when your face is dirty, although there are other ways to clean it, for example using a gentle facial cleanser.
6. Reusing Your Towel for Too Long
And by too long we mean more than a couple of days. Yes, if you’re sharing a towel with someone else, then you should change it every day and if you’re the only one using it, then you shouldn’t keep it for more than 4 days. A moist towel is the perfect medium for bacteria that just get back on you when you use the towel.
5. Incorrect Toilet Posture
Yes, you read that right. There is a correct way to sit on the toilet and an incorrect one. Various studies have discovered that squatting is much more beneficial than sitting on the toilet. The thighs should be fixed upon the abdomen, for best results. Another study has shown that those we used the toilet in a squatting position strained less and moved their bowels 80 seconds faster than those who simply sat on the toilet.
4. Walking Barefoot on Your Bathroom Floor
It’s your bathroom, it’s clean and you should be able to walk barefoot on it, right? Wrong! Did you know that the bathroom floor has the most bacteria in the house? About 2 million per square inch! Ouch! What can you do in this situation? You can either scrub it more often or invest in a pair of shower slippers that you never take off.
3. Using Q-Tips
Maybe you’ve heard that you shouldn’t put anything larger than a finger inside your ear, but are you a good person and following that advice? We don’t think so! The reason you shouldn’t use Q-Tips is that aside from risking damage to your internal ear, you’re also pushing the earwax further inside the ear. Why would you want that to happen?
2. Shampooing Too Often
So many people are shampooing almost daily, which is probably the worst thing you can do for your hair and scalp. The scalp produces natural oils that are beneficial for the hair and of course, the scalp itself. It is our own way of conditioning the hair. If you use shampoo too often, then you’re stripping the scalp from its oils, pushing it to produce more and more. Over shampooing leads to a greasier scalp and hair.
1. Applying Force When Brushing Teeth
Aside from the fact that most people don’t brush for three minutes (which is the mandatory brushing time), they will brush their teeth incorrectly, most of the times, applying too much force. If you’re pushing on your toothbrush, your teeth won’t get cleaner faster, you’ll just end up hurting your gums and cause bleeds which invites bacteria in. Be gentle with your gums and teeth and they will be gentle to you.
