If you’re battling acne, then you must have tried everything to get rid of it: creams, gels, scrubs, oils and powders! If nothing worked, then maybe it is time to take a look at some of your habits, because they can cause acne, too. In an earlier post we’ve given you some tips for acne removal and today we’re going to browse through 10 habits that are causing acne. If you believe that any of these habits are causing your acne, stop it, improve it or modify it! There is no need to continue something that is harming you. Read on and take notes!

10. Pressurepressure acne

In case you didn’t know, there is such a thing as pressure induced acne. It’s acne that is caused by physical pressure applied to your face. Let’s say, for example, that you like to keep your hand on your chin when you’re watching a movie. That area that you cover up with your hand is more likely to have acne appear on it. Wash your hands before touching your face and try not to put other objects that might carry bacteria on your face or clean them often if you do. When was the last time you cleaned your mobile phone?

9. Drying Your Skinsoap

If you have acne, then most likely you have oily skin. We’ve been taught ever since we were little that oily skin needs to be stripped of moisture through harsh soaps, but that is only making your skin worse. Stripping it of oil will actually make it produce even more oil, hence the vicious cycle. Be gentle with your skin and do not use any harsh soaps on it. The production of sebum should balance itself out in a couple of weeks.

8. Laundry DetergentLaundry Detergent

You’ve never thought that your laundry detergent could be the cause behind your acne, but it can be. You rest your face against a pillow for half a day and if the detergent that was used to clean the pillow case had fragrance or other irritators, they will make your acne worse. Also, change your pillow cases at least once a week and your face towels daily to make sure you’re not giving bacteria time to thrive.

7. StressStress

Well, this one is a no brainer, really! If you’re stressed, it is bound to show up on your body, one way or another and acne is one of the most common somatic manifestations of stress. We know that you can’t cure stress with a simple chill out, but you could talk to a doctor and see how you can learn to unwind, relax and avoid stress.

6. Makeup Ingredients that Cause Irritationmakeup ingredients

There are some ingredients in makeup that will cause skin irritation and even acne. For example, mineral oil is a highly comedogenic and will clog the pores. It is because it’s basically plastic that covers your face and body. Another ingredient that can cause irritation and acne is lanolin, which comes from sheep. It can be OK for people with a dry skin, but if you have oily skin, it is best you avoid it.

5. Artificial Fiberslycra

Another of these habits that are causing acne is wearing clothing made from artificial fibers. Lycra and polyester will not let your skin breathe and they’ll also trap dead cells close to your skin. If you have acne on your body, make sure you only wear clothes made from natural fibers, so your skin can breathe!

4. Your Skin Routineskin routine

Do you have a skin routine? Do you remove your makeup or wash your face in the morning and evening. Sleeping with makeup on can be highly damaging to your skin. Even if you don’t wear makeup, your skin is quite dirty at the end of the day, from pollution and dust and you must take some time to thoroughly clean it.

3. SmokingSmoking

Some say smoking causes acne, while others aren’t so sure. But if you are a smoker and you have acne, then maybe you should try to quit and see if your skin improves. Needless to say that smoking is really bad for your health and you should quit, even if your skin is fine.

2. Dirty Makeup BrushesDirty Makeup Brushes

Makeup brushes should be cleaned at least once a week. If you apply makeup with dirty brushes, you’re only putting bacteria that have grown into the brushes, right on your skin. A dirty makeup brush is one of the most dangerous things, when it comes to the health of your skin. Wash your brushes!

1. Your Dietjunk food

You really are what you eat! If you eat lots of junk food, how you expect to have nice, clear and radiant skin? Also, if you have acne, then maybe you should try giving up dairy for a while and see if your acne improves. Dairy products, along with junk food, are known to cause acne and
