Let’s cut the bull, shall we? Having younger looking skin mainly has to do with genetics, right? I mean, you can’t really change your genes, can you? If your parents had wrinkles in their early 40’s, then you’re probably going to have them too. Well, that’s only half of the story and in fact, having younger looking skin depends a lot on you, your lifestyle and your skincare routine. We’re not saying that slathering some coconut oil will make you look 25 all your life, but if you do it for 25 years, then maybe it will. It’s not going to do you any harm, that’s for sure!
10. Lead a Happy Life
Yeah, we know, this is quite a tip, isn’t it? But it’s been proven that people whose lead a happy, careless life have great skin. Not frowning all the time can do wonders for your face! Try not to let the little things get to you, and remember the tip that all centenarians give when asked their secret to living to 100: lead a balanced lifestyle.
9. Use Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one of the best natural oils for your skin. You can use it on your face of body right after you’ve taken a shower, as the moisture on your skin will melt the oil and help it get absorbed better. It’s also great for your hair and it does wonders if you want to lose weight. If you eat a tablespoon of it three times a day, you’ll feel less hungry.
8. Use Quality Products
Don’t get stingy when it comes to your skin. You can’t take your money to your grave, but you are taking your skin there, so make it look pretty! Get the best skincare you can get your hands on and your skin will look better. Go to your local beauty store and ask for advice on what to buy, or do some research on the Internet yourself.
7. Don’t Sleep with Makeup On
Sleeping with your makeup on is one of the biggest mistakes you can make when it comes to skincare. The makeup will not only clog your pores and give you zits and blackheads, but it will also age your skin. All those chemicals in the makeup staying for 24 hours a day can’t be good for your skin and eyes. Some women believe that sleeping with mascara on will give them that nice smudged look in the morning, but that can be recreated with the help of some fresh makeup.
6. Get a Bit of Sun
Although staying too long in the sun can actually harm your skin, a bit of sun can really help your skin. We get our vitamin D mainly from exposure to sun. Vitamin D is responsible for healthy cell reproduction, so if you want your skin cells to renew themselves, stay out for 20 minutes in the sun and wear a bit of sunscreen.
5. Avoid Processed Foods
You are what you eat! If you’re eating lots of greasy, processed foods, like pizza, cheese and fries, then all that salt and trans fats are going to show up on your skin. Our advice for getting younger looking skin is to try to eat as much fresh fruits and vegetables as possible. Great foods for the skin include nuts, seeds, avocados, bananas and green leafy vegetables.
4. Drink Plenty of Liquids
Did you know that you can be dehydrated and not even feel it? When you start feeling thirsty, your body is already in SOS mode. We know you’ve heard this before, but drinking plenty of liquids really does help improve the quality of your skin. Dry skin gets wrinkled faster, so drink up your water!
There are two types of exfoliation: chemical and mechanical. The mechanical type will exfoliate the dead skin cells through friction (you actually rub the skin off); the chemical one is done through fruit acids which eat away at your dead skin cells until brand new skin is revealed. A 3% to 10% chemical peel can be done at home, but if you really want to dramatically improve your skin, we recommend the more concentrated peels which can be done at the doctor’s office.
2. Use Sunscreen
The sun can be our biggest friend but also our biggest enemy. If you’re planning on staying in the sun, we urge you to use sunscreen. It will prevent your skin from deteriorating and it will help you avoid getting skin cancer. It’s that simple!
1. Use Hydrating Creams
If we were to recommend only one tip for getting younger skin, this would be it. Use hydrating creams, no matter what your skin type is (don’t think that having oily skin means that you mustn’t use face creams). Keep your skin nourished and it will look younger longer.
