This one is for you, all you nail polish users and enthusiasts out there. As you know, it’s hard to stop after just one bottle or two once you start shopping, and this is why all of us who share this passion usually have a lot of nail polish shades in their vanity cabinets. But no variety seems to be enough and even if two nail polish shades seem to be very similar, they’re actually not: dupes are to be found very rarely among the top brands in the niche and therefore it’s completely understandable if you want to have 5 or 10 more little bottles in your collection each season. At least that’s what we ladies on the Smashingtops team keep telling ourselves.
Each new season brings about at least a new collection released by each major brand, which plays the house’s vision on what they deem to be the representative colors of the season. Some common lines exist at all times, such as the unwritten rule that spring is for pastels, summer is for neon colors just ripe for wearing at the beach or at the pool, fall is for deep, dark and saturated hues, while winter is for glitzy and flashy nail polish shades and sparkle top coats, just right to be worn at all the parties of the season. But even if most houses follow these de facto guidelines, every now and then something spectacular is added to the mix, as science makes progresses in textures and formulas. In 2012 the major revelation was bar glitter and textured nail polishes such as OPI’s famous liquid sand texture, for example. The combinations that arise from here are virtually limitless.
That is why, without further ado, we will now present you the main catches of the upcoming winter 2014 season, which we think any polish enthusiasts must absolutely have in her (or his, why not) collection. There will be plenty of red, pink, plum, blue and glitter to satisfy any preference, but all with a different twist to the reds and blues and purples you are used to. Enjoy and happy shopping!
1. OPI Cinnamon Sweet – from the Gwen Stefani Winter Holiday 2014 collection
A delicious red with a soft and warm tone, not as harsh or vampy as the classic red we’re all accustomed to. The name also screams of warm cinnamon buns with a cup of tea or mulled wine, perfect after a ride in the snow with your friends. We’ve put this on the top of the list because of all the red nail polish shades we own (and they’re quite a few), this is the absolute fave.
2. OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland – from the OPI Nordic Collection of winter 2014
This is a really interesting shade of plain purple, deep and dark and just perfect for the cold season. Whenever you want to turn it up to something a bit more festive, feel free to use one of the season’s glitter nail polish shades on top. It will work like a charm, especially with our next entry to the list, Comet in the Sky.
3. OPI Comet in the Sky – OPI Nordic Collection
This ladies is the star of all the new releases in the upcoming winter 2014 season. With this shade, OPI actually managed to achieve a perfect galaxy look for the nails with just a few strokes from the bottle, instead of going to the salon to have a nail artist work on your hands for hours. It works perfectly especially over darker shades of blue and purple.
4. OPI Do You Have This Color in Stockholm? – OPI Nordic Collection
A perfect and intense lilac blue, a couple of nudges darker than the usual lilac blue we see in spring collections. We think this would be a perfect base for Comet in the Sky as well.
5. OPI Thank Glogg It’s Friday – OPI Nordic Collection
Ok, this is out last OPI entry to the top lest someone could suspect us of advertising, but we couldn’t help featuring so many seeing how wonderful the company’s new nail polish shades for the season were. Thank Glogg it’s Friday seems like just the perfect cranberry wine shade for the season. Mulled wine for everyone!
6. Zoya Dovima – from the Matte Velvet 2014 collection
The perfect satiny black, much classier and different than your average black nail polish, this shade would go wonderful with any dark-colored party dress.
7. Zoya Nori – from the Wishes Holiday 2014 collection
A textured polish (Zoya calls them Pixie Dust nail polish shades), Nori is a mermaid-like blue with irregular and multi-sized glitters to adorn the prettiest nails in all the ballrooms.
8. Orly Tinsel – from the Holiday 2014 Sparkle Collection
If this doesn’t scream Christmas, we don’t know what does. Layer it over a plain white base, as in the picture here, and all the Christmas trees will be jealous.
9. China Glaze Chillin’ with My Snowmies – from the Holiday 2014 Twinkle Collection
Another great glitter polish, this one is bringing you one step closer to having the beauty of snowflakes directly on your fingertips. It’s especially great when layered over a red shade, as you can see.
10. KB Shimmer Pine-ing for Yule – from the Winter 2014 collection
The most spectacular release of the upcoming season, Pine-ing for Yule is an all-in-one glitter designed to emulate the perfect holiday look. Layer it over black (as above) or white for the best results.
WOW!Beautiful colors!
This is nice, outstanding
