Cosmetic procedures without scalpels are revolutionary treatments developed to improve physical appearance and correct the signs of aging by stimulating collagen production via laser, infrared light, radiofrequency waves, etc. Plastic surgeons confirms that non-invasive cosmetic procedures produce less drastic changes compared with surgery using a scalpel. Even so, they can rejuvenate patients up to 5 years and do not have the same risks of conventional plastic surgery.
The extent to which non-invasive cosmetic procedures are effective remains questionable, but the number of patients who seek them is growing. Their popularity stems mainly from the exclusion of risks associated with the use of anesthesia, postoperative infections and long recovery.
1. Remedies for wrinkles
In the past, wrinkles were corrected by a facelift, a procedure by which the plastic surgeon stretches the subcutaneous tissues of the face, cheeks and neck to improve the appearance of the jaw line, cheeks. Excess skin is removed and the incision is closed with sutures.
Along the way, there were found non-invasive alternative to face lifts to correct wrinkles. We are talking about the purified injectable variants of botulinum toxin, which in small doses relaxes the facial muscles. Injections are administered quickly, and the discomfort is minor. Results are visible in about 3-7 days, when the skin becomes smoother in the treated area. Every 4-6 months, the injections must be repeated, so as to keep the result.
2. Chemical peel
Chemical peel treatments use an acid solution to exfoliate the upper layers of the skin. The substance is often used a combination of glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, phenolic acid and trichloroacetic acid.
The procedure should take no longer than 15 minutes and can cause unpleasant sensations such as tingling or stinging. The principle behind chemical peel is that, in a few days after the procedure, the layer of dead skin is removed, leaving a new young and smooth layer
Chemical peel is good to remove aging stains, fine lines around the eyes and mouth, scars left by acne and wrinkles caused by sun exposure. In general, it requires repeated treatment sessions to achieve visible results.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive alternative to dermabrasion, the procedure which surgically removes skin layers to regenerate. By microdermabrasion, the skin is exfoliated using small crystals, so as to remove fine lines, dark spots and other imperfections specific of age.
As the outer layer of skin is exfoliated, the dead cells are removed by suction. Immediately after the procedure, the skin looks fresh and pink. The rash disappears, usually after about 24 hours, when the skin is more toned.
One of the latest non-invasive aesthetic treatments, thermage addresses wrinkled skin that needs smoothing and toning. The special device uses radiofrequency waves to heat the skin tissue. The process stimulates the production of collagen, a substance needed to look youthful and toned complexion. Thermage can be painful, but the advantage is that one session is often enough to achieve the desired results.
5. Non ablative laser
Non ablative laser penetrates the outer layer of skin (without affecting the lower ones) and stimulates the production of collagen, improving the appearance of fine lines and improving skin tone and firmness. Since the procedure is painful, it is usually applied a local anesthetic.
Non ablative laser is particularly effective for treating dark spots appeared most often during pregnancy. To obtain visible results there are needed several sessions scheduled a few weeks away.
6. The laser diode
Aimed particularly at rebellious acne sufferers, a laser diode destroys the secreting sebum glands that produce acne breakouts. Just like the non ablative laser, it penetrates only in the outer layer of skin without affecting the lower ones.
After each procedure, you may experience skin inflammation and irritation, which disappears shortly after. After about 6 months of treatment, skin starts to improve visibly.
7. IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
This latest technology uses light rays with controlled wavelength that reach the dermis level and destroy diseased cells, stimulating skin regeneration. Unlike laser, pulsed light can treat many skin imperfections simultaneously without causing major discomfort.
This cosmetic procedure is especially effective in treating rosacea and discoloration of dark circles, as well as removing unwanted skin pigmentation.
