We’re counting the days until March 2nd when the 86th Academy Awards Ceremony takes places at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. In case you still don’t know who the nominees are, we recommend you take a look here, at the 2014 Oscars official website. There are many things we love about the Oscars, from the gorgeous gowns, to the jokes, the speeches and the losing faces. We’re eager to see who gets the Oscar for the best picture of the year and we love making predictions. For example, this year’s Hobbit has once again revolutionized visual effects, so we expect it to have a few wins in that department. We hope these following 10 things happen at the 2014 Oscars!
10. Meryl Streep Doesn’t Win
We think Meryl Streep is one of the most talented actors that have ever graced our silver screens. She’s won the coveted award three times and was nominated for a gazillion times. For this year’s nominations, we think the final battle is going to go down between Meryl and Cate and we’re rooting for Cate because this would only her second win.
9. Jennifer Lawrence Falls Again
Jennifer Lawrence is the type of girl you’d love to party with. She just seems so down to earth and has that nice self-deprecation that so many celebrities these days are lacking. Last year when she on stage to pick up her Oscar, she tripped and fell and the whole world got to see how cute she looked doing that. We hope she wins and we hope she trips again, because that’s good television.
8. Captain Phillips Wins Something!
This movie has got to win an Oscar. Any Oscar is a good Oscar. It’s nominated for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Barkhad Abdi), Best Adapted Screenplay (Billy Ray), Best Film Editing (Christopher Rouse), Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. Our best bet is that Barkhad Abdi is going to take home the statue, he was absolutely brilliant!
7. George Clooney Debuts His New Girlfriend
George Clooney has been going through the award circuit solo, which is very unlike him. He usually likes to have a nice and young lady on his arm. Many people are hoping that he debuts his new girlfriends at this year’s Oscar ceremony. On a different note, we absolutely loved the joke Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s joke about him at the Golden Globes: George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.
6. Matthew McConaughey Puts on a Few Pounds
Matthew did the unthinkable in his portrayal of Ron Woodroof in the Dallas Buyers Club. Who would have thought that the rom-com, buff, beach-going dude would act so brilliantly? We certainly didn’t think so. That’s why he must get an Oscar. We would love to see him get his body back, because he seems rather uncomfortable at his current weight.
5. Benedict Cumberbatch Gets a Bit of Camera Time
If Benedict Cumberbatch shows up for the ceremony our day will instantly get better. He’s been so popular these days that the internet is simply going to explode from all the Cumberlovin’ going around. We’re sorry he didn’t get nominated for his role in 12 Years a Slave, maybe next year, Mr. Cumberbatch!
4. Angelina Jolie Shows Up
We can’t even remember the last time Angelina and Brad walked hand in hand on the red carpet. At this year’s Bafta Awards they finally did and they looked stunning. Angelina’s suit was perfect and she was gorgeous. If they show up together at the 2014 Oscars, they will certainly be at the center of attention and we love when that happens.
3. Cate Blanchett Wins
Cate Blanchet did the performance of her life in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. She deserves an Oscar almost as much as Leo does, and that’s saying a lot! She won a Bafta Award and an Oscar is juts the next logical step. Do you think she’ll win?
2. Ellen Makes Inappropriate Jokes
Ellen DeGeneres is one of the funniest people in Hollywood and she’s perfect for hosting the Oscar Ceremony. She’s not as edgy as some previous hosts of the Golden Globes were (Ricky Gervais, Any Poehler and Tina Fey) because the Oscars are bit more toned down, joke-wise, so we would love to see Ellen push the boundaries a bit.
1. Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Gets His Oscar
Oh, come on, already! Give the man an Oscar! He’s been snubbed and snubbed for years and now is his time to shine. How could the Academy not give him an Oscar for his role in Djnago Unchained? If he doesn’t get an Oscar, then he’ll have to go weep in the arms of a young, blonde Victoria’s Secret model on a Yacht on the French Riviera and we wouldn’t want that for him… again.
