We don’t know when they’re coming, but they are coming. Zombies, the undead, the walking dead, the biters, the revenants, the flesh-eaters, the infected ones or whatever you want to call them will be coming for our juicy brains. All those awesome horror movies couldn’t have been wrong, could they? You’re a big Walking Dead fan and you’re feeling a bit uneasy about an impending zombie apocalypse? You don’t quite know about how to survive the zombie apocalypse? Then rest assured, we’ve got 10 tips that will help you get ready for when that time comes when nothing but surviving matters.
10. Shed the Excess Weight
The fat guys are always first to be eaten by zombies, basically because they can’t run very fast. So, if you’re a bit or a lot overweight and you want to survive a zombie attack, start shedding the pounds now. You’ll survive the zombie apocalypse! And if it doesn’t come then you’ll be a healthy and fit individual.
9. Pick a Meeting Place
When the zombies invade us, there will be chaos. And in all that chaos you could become separated from family or friends. Be sure to choose a meeting place where you and your friends and family will regroup in case zombies invade your neighborhood or town. Pick a place that is not too far from where you live; one that is quite sheltered, such as an abandoned building or cellar.
8. Have Your Essentials with You
There are 10 essentials objects you should never leave home without, especially in a zombie situation. The list includes: walking shoes, backpack, hat, water, layered clothing, identification, money and sunscreen (just because the world is being invaded by zombies it doesn’t mean that cancer is taking some time off). You’ll also need to prepare a good evacuation kit in advance for your car and house.
7. Buy the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks
In 2003, Max Brooks published The Zombie Survival Guide and it was a massive hit that inspired several movies, among which the popular World War Z. It has a detailed plan for the average Joe to survive the zombie apocalypse. It’s not a silly book, as you might think and it will provide you with a massive chunk of information you will need to survive during the zombie times. It truly is a survival manual and it’s not a joke. It was featured on the New York Times Best Seller’s list.
6. Identify Emergency Contacts
Make a list of local contacts such as the fire department, the police or the neighborhood zombie killing team. Knowing who you can turn to in times of need will help increase your survival chances. Remember, phones could be down, so you will need to think about other methods of communication, such as walkie-talkies and radio.
5. Think about Protecting Yourself
Are you good with a gun? Whether you like guns or not, you’ll need one when push comes to shove to protect yourself against zombies and people. If you want to survive the zombie apocalypse think about protection and start now.
4. Have a Doomsday Bunker
If you can build a doomsday bunker and stock it well, then you have great chances of surviving the first couple of months of the zombie apocalypse, which are the worst. In those months people are desperate and they’ll do anything to survive. The zombies will be attacking people and will decimate them, while you get to stay in your doomsday bunker and enjoy some pineapple syrup.
3. Plan Your Evacuation Route
You need to evacuate your building or town fast when the zombies show up, so you need a good plan. For example, on the way to your meeting place, drop by the store to grab some food and medicine; know how to get there and what to buy/get once you are there. This particular tip is also very helpful in case of natural disasters.
2. Study Zombies
Just because zombies aren’t real (yet!) doesn’t mean that you can’t study them! Then how can you study something that isn’t real? Through movies! Watch at least 15 zombie movies and write things down as you’re learning things about them. What do they eat? How do they move? What are their weak spots? How can you kill them? These are only a few questions you will need to have an answer to, before the zombie apocalypse begins.
1. Run, You Fool, Run!
There are two types of zombies: slow ones and fast ones and you don’t know which ones will take over the planet. If they’re like the ones in Walking Dead, then you’re in luck, but what if they’re like the ones that used to chase Will Smith in I Am Legend? If that’s the case, then you’re pretty much doomed. Our biggest tip on how to survive the zombie apocalypse is to get good at running. So, practice as much as you can, build your walking speed, add jogging intervals to your walking workouts. It’s good for the heart and when the time comes, you’ll thank us!
