Some men don’t understand fashion and that’s OK, because not everyone is meant to do that. But this could lead to some very dangerous behavior, fashion-wise. Wearing things that no person, man or woman, should wear… and we’re not talking about the occasional bracelets for men, no, we’re talking about some things that constitute men’s fashion faux pas. Let’s take a look at the most common and worst men’s fashion faux pas.
10. Crocs
Crocs were invented as a joke. Well, at least that’s what I like to believe. If I see a man on the street wearing Crocs then I know what type of man he is… one that I don’t like. It’s OK to wear them while you’re gardening or going to the beach, but do not take them out while you’re out and about during the day or night. Same for flip-flops – they’re for the beach!
9. Miss a Spot While Shaving
OK, this isn’t really a fashion faux pas, it’s more like a faux pas, but I’ve talked to plenty of women and I’ve asked for their opinion on this and most don’t like it at all when a man misses a spot while shaving. One said We’re expected to be hair-free in almost every spot on our bodies, the least they can do is shave well. She’s right, isn’t she?
8. V-neck Over Turtleneck
Dear Grandpa,
It was nice seeing you again after all this time. Some things remind me of you and the time when I was little and you used to take me fishing near our home. You wore your navy V-neck over your black turtleneck.
Love,
Hannah
7. Going for the Rock n Roll Style
Some styles shouldn’t be tackled by normal people. For example, wearing lots of scarves and accessories is absolutely fine for rock stars such as Steven Tyler and Johnny Depp, but if you’re working in an office 5 days a week and you drive a Ford, then you shouldn’t wear scarves and accessories. Sorry, it’s something you should know.
6. Wrinkled Clothes
The only person in the world who looks good in wrinkled clothes (and he’s not even a real person) is Dr. Gregory House. If you’re not House, then make an effort and press your shirts or get someone to do it for you. If you don’t do it, then maybe you should reconsider wearing shirts altogether. You could stick to T shirts, they don’t wrinkle that much!
5. Shine is for Pimps
This men’s fashion faux pas is closely linked to our number 7. As mentioned, some people should just stick to what they know. Don’t try to act and dress like a pimp, a hip hop star or a rock star, unless you are one. If not, you’ll look ridiculous.
4. Piling on Too Many Designer Labels
One small logo is fine, but when you’re piling on too many designer labels, that’s considered a fashion faux pas. Wearing clothes is not a competition, you’re not going to win anything if you’ve got 5 designer labels on you, one bigger than the other.
3. Wearing the Wrong Size
Men, whenever you buy clothes, buy them the right size for you. Don’t get a smaller T shirt just because you think they’ll make you more muscular, or don’t get a large pair of pants, just because you like the pants. Wearing small clothes will make you look silly and ridiculous and wearing large clothes will make you seem immature, a kid who’s playing dress up with his father’s clothes.
2. Stained Clothes
Wearing stained clothes is a faux pas that women also make and it’s a horrible faux pas. Why look messy and sloppy when a simple check up in the mirror can save you the trouble of looking like a mess? If you happen to have a lunch mishap try to clean yourself up, don’t ignore it. I remember I had this boss who would always stain his shirts during lunch and he would stay like that all day long. We had one meeting where everyone would just stare and his stains. I’ve lost a lot of respect for him because of that.
1. Socks in Sandals
This is no news! The number one fashion faux pas that men make is wearing socks in sandals! Why on earth would anyone wear socks and sandals is beyond me. Is it because you don’t want to get dirty? Then don’t wear sandals and stick to shoes. I really want to know the answer to this question, so if you’ve ever worn socks and sandals, drop me a line and tell us why you did it!
