Radio controlled toys are some of the coolest gadgets money can buy, addressing not only the kid’s toy market, but also providing entertainment for us, adults, who like to keep our inner child alive. Radio Control (R/C) technology makes use of radio signals to remotely control a device. In 1898 Nikola Tesla introduced to the public a small boat that could apparently obey commands from the audience at an exhibition at Madison Square. In fact, the boat was controlled by Tesla interpreting the verbal requests and sending appropriate frequencies to tuned circuits in the boat. He was granted a US patent on this invention later that year, on November 8. Besides him, several other scientists worked on the newly developed technology, such as the Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres y Quevedo, Jack Kitchen, and the french inventor Gabet. Radio control was further developed during the WWII, but that’s no fun talking about. We prefer remote controlled toys, not tanks, so here’s our list. Hope you enjoy it.
10. Remotely Controlled Rubber Duck
Although the poor yellow rubber duck may seem obsolete, who can forget those fun time in the bathtub when we were playing with it like nothing in the world mattered? Now you can control it remotely, and take the iconic rubber duck to other realms – those of good old fashioned technology.
9. Parrot AR.Drone 2.0
Getting our heads on more serious and brain stomping toys, we introduce you with the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0. Two years ago the first model of this quadricopter was released, and this year’s CES introduced the new and improved Parrot AR.Drone 2.0. It has an improved camera and software, and a very sleek new look. The camera for the AR.Drone 2.0 is 1280 x 720, and aided by the piloting application (AR.FreeFlight 2.0) allows the user to record HD videos, to watch or share with other AR.Drone users. If you think that’s all, you’re wrong. The device also incorporates “Absolute Flight” which enables the toy to connect to a device via Wi-Fi; once connected all of the on-board instruments will show on screen. How cool is that?!
8. Cyclone Nitro
This remote controlled car doesn’t just look great, it is great. Although you have to pay some additional cash to get the Nitro Glow Starter Set, a Rotating Works Stand, etc. the car is seriously packing a punch for just a “toy”, making the price worthwhile. The car’s strong alloy chassis, shaft driven 4WD system and sealed radio compartments are pushing the four wheeled machine at amazing speeds, while making handling a pleasure. The car further features oil-filled shocks, a single speed gear box, Japanese high quality pull start engine, metal disk brake system and much more.
