Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate the love you have for your partner, your significant other, your lover. If you are in a relationship, you know plenty of things, such as what things you should never say when you are in a relationship and you also know that showing the other person how much you care and appreciate them isn’t something that only needs to be done on one particular day. Still, it’s a special day and you need to treat it that way. Here are a few things you should never do on Valentine’s Day, that will help you maintain peace in your relationship.
10. Forget to Say I Love You
If you love the person you’re with this Valentine’s Day, tell them that! Don’t be afraid to be sentimental on this day, it’s what this day is all about, didn’t you know? Red hearts, heart-shaped candies and a plethora of I Love Yous!
9. Work All Day
Try not to all day long on Valentine’s Day. This year the day falls on a Friday and if you can, try to have a short Friday, leave early or at least don’t stay too long after the work day is done. Try to spend as much time with your significant other and make them feel extra special on this day. It’s a day that celebrates love and you should do just that.
8. Have a Party
Having a party is the best idea to celebrate something special… but not Valentine’s Day. This day is best spent in two. So, disappoint your friends just this day and focus all your attention on your loved one! Instead of having a party, you could go out and celebrate the day at a nice restaurant or even go dancing.
7. Comment on His/Her Outfit
Actually this is something one should never do when in a relationship. Let’s say you don’t like your girlfriend’s outfit and you would like her to change. Why is that? Do you think her outfit reflects on you? You should never ask anyone to change for your sake, because it’s not your place. Even if you feel like you could tell each other everything, there are some things that should better remain untold.
6. Forget to Buy a Gift
Do not, under any circumstance, forget to buy your lover a gift. Even if you don’t have enough money for something substantial, then get a symbolic gift, such as a thing that will remind them of the day you first met or your first date. There are plenty of things that can show the other person how much you love them without you having to spend a fortune on them. Diamonds are great, but a framed ticket stub from your first date is quite romantic.
5. Say I Can’t Wait for This Day to End
Sometimes we feel like Valentine’s Day is too much. There is too much red, pink and ribbons all over the place and we might experience a certain degree of oversaturation, but try to suck it up and go with the flow. It’s just one day, after all. Don’t cry about how you can’t wait for this day to be over, you could ruin the whole thing for your partner.
4. Be Cheap
Out of all the things you should never do on Valentine’s Day, this is one of the most important. Do not be cheap when it comes to buying gifts, going out or preparing a surprise. We’re not saying that you should blow your entire salary on this day, we’re merely suggesting to be generous with your loved one. They are probably going to do the same thing.
3. Mention Old Flames
Let your old lovers rest on this special day. Don’t think of them, don’t call them, don’t do anything that will remind you of them and how lovely your time together was and most importantly, do not mention them to your current significant other. Not unless you want your Valentine’s Day ruined and to experience the fight of the century that will last up to the wee hours of the morning.
2. Bring Up Old Arguments
If there’s something that bothers you about the other person, if there’s something they said, you should try to let it slide on Valentine’s Day. Old arguments and fights should stay buried, at least on this day. You don’t need that right now. You should try to think about everything you like and love about the other person and focus on that.
1. Forget About Valentine’s Day
That’s a good one, don’t you think? How can you forget about Valentine’s Day? It’s not like we get reminded about this by the media every single day for a month in advance! But if you do forget about Valentine’s Day and your loved one doesn’t, be prepared for the biggest talk of your life. Our tip is to bow your head down and take it all!
