If you think about your daily routine, about your life, you will see that you tend to remember things that often aren’t part of your daily routine: a trip you took, something you saw on your way to work that you didn’t see before; a book that touched you, a song that moved you; all things that are out of the ordinary. Being stuck in a routine at work, in your relationship or in your everyday life can make you feel like every day is the same as the previous one. Whether you want to put the spark back into your sex life or feel less bored at work, know that we’re not going to serve you the same life’s short, go out and live it bowl of soup, but we did think of giving you 10 tips to try and get out of a rut, so read on and take notice.
10. What Drove You Into the Rut in the First Place?
The most important thing you can do to get out of a rut is to sit down and think what drove you to the rut in the first place. We’re sure each of us knows what bores them, so by that logic, we should all know what makes us get out of the rut! Come on, what made you bored in the first place?
9. Make a List of Things You Like and Hate about Your Current Situation
Making lists should be easy, it’s just you and a piece of paper. If you’re not happy with your current situation and you’re feeling a bit bored or in a routine that seems to be eating away at your soul, then you should make a list of things you like and don’t like about your current situation. Let’s say you’re in a rut with your job, you love the stability, but you hate the fact that it doesn’t challenge you. You get the drill!
8. Take a Vacation or Just Get Outside
A vacation is like a reset button in life. If after you come back from your vacation, you still feel stuck in a routine, then things are maybe more serious than you originally thought and you should give the situation more thought. If you can’t afford to go on a vacation, then you should just get outside, have some fresh air and take a hike. It will help you put things into perspective.
7. Talk to Friends and Family
Having someone to talk to about your feelings is great. Even if they don’t share your feelings, someone is there to listen to you and to give you their honest opinion about your situation, and that’s something that’s hard to come by these days. Cherish your friends and family, they can give great advice!
6. Set New Goals
Every now and then we need to revisit our goals and expectations and when you’re stuck in a rut, you should do just that. Even if you don’t have too many goals, just one goal is enough to get you moving. Explore that goal, set other mini goals that will help you achieve your big goal, get busy. It’s the best way to get out of a rut.
5. Being Uncomfortable Is Good Sometimes
Have you ever thought that the solution to getting out of a rut is to be uncomfortable? If you haven’t, then it’s high time you did. Being comfortable equals, among other wonderful things, being in a routine, so a great way to get out of a rut is to be uncomfortable, to do things that are out of your comfort zone, you’ll surprise even yourself.
4. Make a Change (Even If You Don’t Really Feel Like It)
Force yourself to make a change; even if you don’t feel like it. Let’s say that you feel stuck in in a rut in your relationship; nothing else really bothers you, expect the routine that seems to bore the living hell out of you. Why not make a change? Share a new fantasy with your loved one or set some new rules that will spice things up. Change is almost always good.
3. Focus… on Something Else
Keeping focused when you’re feeling bored and in a rut isn’t easy, but you can change your focus and things will start falling into place. Let’s say you’re feeling the routine set in at work; you could focus on a different task or ask your boss to give you a different assignment. Focusing on something else will help stimulate your brain.
2. Start Learning New Things
Like learning a new language or a new skill. Learning something new will definitely get you out of a rut. You don’t even need to have money to learn new things. You can find something online or have a friend teach you something they know. You just need to be open to new things.
1. Get Inspired
The best way to get out of a rut is to get inspired about things. Read books, articles, blogs written by and about people who have done something you want to do, people who have been stuck in a rut and have gotten out. Inspiration comes in many forms and until it comes to you, you will not be able to get out of a rut, no matter how hard you try. Besides, people always need examples to move forward.
