Pocket watches became a common accessory since their evolution in the 16th century. That was until wristwatches took the market just after World War I. The earliest known reference to the pocket watch was recorded in a letter, sometimes in November 1462, sent by the Italian clockmaker Bartholomew Manfredi to the Marchese di Mantova Federico Gonzaga – he gives him a better “pocket clock” than the Duke of Modena had. By the end of the 15th Century, spring-driven clocks made their appearance in Italy and Germany. Peter Henlein, a Nuremberg master locksmith, was manufacturing pocket watches by 1524. Since then, manufacturing these “gadgets” spread across the rest of Europe as the 16th century progressed. Early watches had an hour hand; sometime around late 17th century the minute hand appeared. The first American pocket watches with machine made parts were produced by Henry Pitkin and his brother in the late 1830s. In this list we’ve gathered ten pocket watches for men.
