How I Met Your Mother is down to its last episodes ever! Yes, that’s sad, but we had a great run, so let’s cheer up and think about all the things we love about How I Met Your Mother. Our best guess is that How I Met Your Mother is going to become a cult TV series, one of the most popular TV series of all time, and we’ll get to enjoy reruns for years to come. Let’s see those 10 things we love about his show!
10. Ted’s Eagerness to Find a Wife
Ted is extremely eager to find a wife, a soul mate – which is a bit weird and endearing at the same time. I mean, how many TV shows have you seen where the male main lead was so desperate to find a wife and settle down. Not many… actually, none! That’s what we like about Ted, the fact that he’s not afraid to show his sensitive side!
9. MacLaren’s Pub
Ever since I was little I imagined I would go to the big city and find a place where I would meet up with all my friends every week; a place just like MacLaren’s, where the bartender knows your drink, where you have your favorite spot and where you feel just like home. All the sitcoms had this place, Seinfeld and Friends being the most popular ones.
8. All the Recurrent Gags and Throwbacks
This is what made How I Met Your Mother so unique and what made it so successful: all those funny throwbacks and recurrent gags. Like the time when Barney proposed to Robin and he made it look like he wasn’t in fact interested at all in being with her, but instead it looked as if he wanted to be with Robin’s annoying assistant, Patrice. He kept at it for quite a few episodes.
7. Lily and Marshal’s Relationship
These guys have the most amazing relationship on TV. They’re honest and considerate; they have a great sex life and are funny as hell. I really think they are an inspiration for people and I will miss them the most when the show ends.
6. Ted’s Women
Ted has had his fair share of women during these nine years. We wonder if he dated more women than Jerry Seinfeld. I bet somewhere, someone kept track of that. Ted believed that almost all of them could be his future wife, as opposed to Jerry and to be honest, that was a breath of fresh air. It’s nice to see sensitive men on TV who are not afraid to appear eager to marry!
5. The Slap Bet
This is one of the things we love about How I Met Your Mother most! The moments when Barney slaps Marshal or the other way around make for great television. We particularly loved when Barney went to train for the final slap with three masters.
4. Ted’s Kids
I mean, those kids are really patient kids! They’ve been sitting on that couch for nine years waiting for their father to tell them about how he met their mother. When the creators of the show finally realized that the children would, at one point, blow up, they produced a small trailer for the show’s last season where the children were very annoyed and angry with their dad. They even used swear words and all! You can watch the awesome clip here.
3. The Mother
We think that Cristin Milioti is absolutely perfect for the role of the mother! She’s cute and pretty and her role presents a very intelligent woman, which is exactly what Ted wants and needs. The more the episodes advance, the more we get to know her; the episode in which her story was presented offered us an insight into the life of the mother and we got to see what a complex and beautiful individual she is! We think she and Ted make a great couple! You go, girl!
2. The Fact the Robin is Canadian
There have been so many jokes on the show about Robin and her Canadian origins that it’s very hard to keep track of them. Robin’s old life in Canada rears its head many times and that’s what makes her so likeable and special. And of course, how can we forget about Robin Sparkles and her great single Let’s Go to the Mall?
1. Barney Stinson
We’re not saying that Barney alone has carried the show, but if we did, it wouldn’t be too far away from the truth. Barney made How I Met Your Mother the great show it is today and the fact that the character is played by Neil Patrick Harris makes it even more amazing. We will forever remember and use phrases such as Legend… wait for it… dary and Suit up! or When I’m sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead!
