Marvel has recently released the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War, and it sure was a treat! We got a look at the new characters that will be introduced, as well as better understood why Captain America and Iron Man ended up starting a war against one another. However, there might be a couple aspects that you didn’t notice, but they are essential to understand what is truly going to happen in the movie. We have compiled a list of 7 important facts from the Captain America movie trailer that hint towards the development of the story and the characters.
1. The Avengers
Even though this might be the movie of Captain America, we need to keep in mind that it is a sequel of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. If you need any proof, you can clearly see a shot of the The Avengers logo on the tower in the trailer. Furthermore, the big battle will take place between the team of Iron Man and the one of Captain America. The last movie that takes place in this universe, Avengers: Age of Ultron, left the characters in a bizarre place. Many founding members have left, and Captain America became the leader of a couple of newcomers. The outcome of Civil War will undoubtedly make the members face difficult challenges, in order to set the stage for the next movie, Avengers: Infinity War.
2. The Team
The trailer also gives us a good look at Captain America’s team, which is quite predictable. Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Bucky will all fight on his side. However, there are a few unexpected members, such as Hawkeye. On the other hand, Black Widow seems to have joined Tony Stark’s team, which hasn’t been fully revealed yet. Even though we haven’t seen Ant-Man yet, we can presume he will be part of the Captain’s team.
Captain America: Civil War will be the first time Spider-Man will make an appearance alongside the other Marvel heroes. This definitely proves to be a major plot point, and it will be interesting to see how the story develops. The hero is portrayed by Tom Holland, but he cannot be seen in the trailer. The reason for this might be that the first preview needed to focus on the conflict between Iron Man and Captain America, without other distractions. Furthermore, the marketing team will surely want to surprise the viewers further on, after giving them a couple of looks at the action of the movie.
4. Black Panther
Another surprise for the fans was the glimpse at Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman. The hero will make his debut in the movie, and is sure to be involved in the action as we can see him kicking Winter Soldier to the ground. We can only presume that Black Panther will either join Tony Stark or find himself in the middle of the war between the two teams. The hero will have his own movie which is currently in early production and is set for release sometime in 2018.
5. Captain America’s sidekick, Bucky
The trailer also establishes the fact that the Winter Soldier will finally break free of the programming that enslaved him, thus re-becoming Bucky, Captain America’s former sidekick. The relationship between the two will be one of the central parts of the story. Furthermore, it also seems that Bucky’s fugitive status is one of the causes of the central conflict. However, there are other aspects to take into consideration, such as the Sokovia Accords.
6. The Sokovia Accords
This Registration Act of the Superhumans is a reference to the city destroyed by Ultron in his attempt to put an end to all human life. Its purpose is to monitor superhuman activity, and was hoisted by “Thunderbolt” Ross on Captain America. The central hero is set to defy the Sokovia Accords while trying to capture Bucky. Thus, the two factors seem to be linked and to cause the war between the two Marvel heroes.
7. The Casualties
If we take a look at the events in the comic books, we can clearly see the terrible casualties which resulted during the war. The movie seems to be no different. The trailer contains a shot of Iron Man who is cradling War Machine (James Rhodes). The latter has a battered armor and looks unconscious, which should get us worried. While it looks highly unlikely that he would be killed by the Captain’s team, he might end up as collateral damage, and his death would surely be another crack in the friendship between Iron Man and Captain America. Even if the two manage to salvage their relationship, we should keep in mind that friendship is like expensive china: you can glue it back together, but you will always see the cracks.
