In 2013 when a new Batman movie was announced starring Ben Affleck in the lead role people went wild. Endless debates whether he will be any good occupied our minds. Poor Ben, he was even compared with his Daredevil role where he pretty much sucked. Others gave him a break because of his best performance in Argo. Before we get to see the movie there will still be strong debates whether his Batman performance will be good or bad.
Since we have plenty of time until March 2016 for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” we can have a look at the older Batman actors. To make time fly let’s examine who played him better in this top 7 Best Batman Actors.
7. Val Kilmer
What people remember from his time on the set of Batman Forever is his behavior. Val was known for his “childish and impossible” attitude because he was acting like a total diva. Too bad all his energy did not go into his on screen performance. His portrayal of Batman is sloppy and weak. This is way Val is the least memorable Batman of them all.
6. George Clooney
Poor Clooney, he did not stand a chance with the Bat-nipples suite. His agent should have known better than let him start in Batman and Robin, because it was a box-office letdown. Witch cheesy lines and bad script, Clooney gave all his best but in the end he failed hard. Who can look at that Batsuit and take Clooney seriously? At least now he is picking better roles.
5. Will Arnett
Don’t judge. He is not the classical Batman but his performance was pretty good. Will gives a far better performance than the previous two on the list. Arnett version of Batman in Lego Movie will become a classic because it was one of the funniest and unexpected Batman roles so far. When you think of Will’s Batman, the song “Untitled Self Portrait” comes into mind. The Philosophical lyrics include “Darkness No parents Continued Darkness More darkness, get it?”.
4. Adam West
Adam West starred for 2 years in Batman the TV series, from 1966 to 1968. If you have watched it then you must remember the flashy scenes with “Pow”. This TV show was well developed and was pretty famous back in those days. Heck, they even manage to revive Alfred, who was “killed off” in the comic book series and then resurrected due to the show’s popularity. Adam had his special appeal as he managed to combine humor with charm while kicking ass.
3. Michael Keaton
He reached number 3 on the top 7 Best Batman Actors, this means he was one hell of a Batman. His two words line “I’m Batman” says it all. No wonder he played in two Batman movies, both directed by none other than Tim Burton. Michael’s take on Batman was new and fresh and this is why the public adored him. Although Michael struggle with movement in his Batsuit, he still gave a very good performance.
2. Christian Bale
If you ignore Christian’s Bale deep Batman Voice, his performance was pretty amazing. Sure it can be distracting some times when you hardly understand what he is saying but just look at his expression and body language. He was clearly very deep into his character’s mind. What made him unique is that in these Nolan’s trilogy movies, Batman is not such an all-powerful superhero. Here, Bale’s portrayal of Batman is more relateable, a Batman that has fears, doubts and is not 100% sure of himself. Don’t get from this that his Batman was weak, instead Bale showed that Batman can be capable of a wider range of emotions. He realistically portrays a screwed up person that suits up in a Batsuit and fights crimes.
1. Kevin Conroy
Did you expect somebody else? Kevin will always be the best of the Batmen. Sure he does not need to jump around on the set, but instead he has a tougher role to fill. All his emotions, feelings can only be reflected by his voice. He is the only one from all the above Batmen that played this hero for more than two decades. His voice will forever be the iconic voice of the true Batman. Who can forget this speech: “I am vengeance! I am the night! I am Batman!”. It still gives me the chills when I read those words. They have a powerful effect, don’t they? One amazing man and one extraordinary Batman. Raise your hands all of you who think he is the true Batman.
