In today’s hectic timetable and unachievable beauty standards it is no wonder that the health craze has reached the proportions it has. Of course this is not meant to demolish nutritional advice or diets and lifestyles that have seemed to flourish during the last years, as some of them carry great benefits, for health, moral and environmental reasons. One of the most controversial is veganism, where for some reason or another, meat and all animal products are renounced in favor of vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds and sprouts. And many celebrities are adepts of this lifestyle:
Yes, the breaker of hearts, the unmistakable smile, Hollywood’s sweetheart is indeed a vegan. That means that body exists in absence of eggs, fish, dairy or meat. Any animal product whatsoever. Few would have thought.
Grey’s Anatomy actress playing the role of an amazingly gifted soon-to-be cardio-thoracic surgeon is a declared vegan and invited all cast members to a vegan lunch in Los Angeles.
The former boxer, now aged 35 has been given his own show on Animal Planet where the bird-lover races and nurtures pigeons. This aside, Tyson too is a convinced vegan since 2009 and he declares this lifestyle has improved his general state tremendously and left him feeling better than ever.
The lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars, also an actor, producer, director is a convinced vegan for ethics reasons, which he supported by attending several benefit galas meant to put an end to animal cruelty but also by their music which contains messages about the effects we are having on our environment. Moreover, the band also launched a web-page designed to raise awareness about environmental issues and the havoc mankind is reaping on the planet.
Ellen and Portia DeGeneres
This power couple of the spotlights is vegan for ethical reasons as well. Animal lovers as they describe themselves, they live with four cats and three dogs. Ellen coordinates a website called “Going Vegan with Ellen” designed to reach out and get more people involved in the vegan movement. She also opened a vegan bar in Los Angeles.
The Grammy Award winner stars in the hit series “Glee” as “Rachel Berry” the star child born to be on Broadway. But besides her many nominations and wins within the industry, Lea Michele is also a honorary Humanitarian Award winner. She went vegan because, according to her, it was the only choice that made it possible for her to have the energy she needs.
This actress is one of the most prominent vegans in Hollywood, and she has also chosen this lifestyle because of ethical reasons. She is an environmental and animal rights activist that supports PETA activity after she realized in 1998 that she was “an animal lover who was eating animals”. Her book, “The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet” contains delicious vegan recipes that is designed to turn even the most convinced of meat-eaters into a tofu-eating junky.

The rock legend, former member of Black Sabbath is also a vegan, and his recent change of lifestyle has apparently helped him remain trim during tours, according to his wife, Sharon.
American actor Alec Baldwin is also a convinced vegan and he is feeling amazing he says. So much so that he lost 30 pounds and started regularly working out.
Regardless of the reasons for which a vegan diet is adopted, many believe that it is not only the path to a better, younger, healthier you but also a means with which we can save our planet. And the positive thing about celebrities making their lifestyle choices public is that they make such movements known to the public by doing as Ghandi said : “they are being the change they want to see in the world”.
