When it comes to weddings, people are either traditional or modern. There are so many wedding traditions that are kept in these modern days that one wonders why people still follow them blindly. Is it because it doesn’t feel like a wedding unless it’s traditional? Or is there too much pressure from family members? In the past we’ve given you some advice for great wedding pictures and today it’s time we took a look at some wedding rules you can break. So, if you’re getting married anytime in the near future, read on and trust us when we say it’s OK to break some of the most traditional wedding rules in the world.

10. The Wedding Registry Should Consist of Housewareshousewares

These days couples live together before getting married, so buying the newlyweds pots and pans is pretty much obsolete, as they probably have the pots and pans they’ve always wanted. Go for untraditional gifts such as hotel accommodations or cycling equipment. Give the bride and groom something they’ll enjoy and have fun with. A crock pot is not fun, even if it makes delicious food.

9. The Bride Should Walk Down the Aislebride's side

The bride shouldn’t do anything she doesn’t want to do. The thing is that most times, you don’t even think that you have an option in this case and that walking down the aisle is just something that brides do at wedding. Well, it’s not and if you don’t want to do it, don’t do it! If you still want to honor your parents, you could include in the ceremony a moment where you give them flowers or something like that.

8. The Bride’s Mother Can’t Throw a Bridal Showerbridal shower

Anyone can throw the bride a bridal shower and in some cases, the mother is the right person to do it. If you are a bride, encourage your mother to throw your bridal shower, it’s a great bonding moment and you get to spend quality time with your mom, while you’re still her little girl.

7. Brides Should Wear a Long, White Gownshort wedding dresses

Again, a bride should wear whatever she wants and just because it’s tradition for the bride to wear a long white dress, it doesn’t mean that all brides should do it and it certainly doesn’t mean that if she doesn’t it is going to be bad luck for her. These days, shorter wedding gowns are gaining popularity, just look at the ones in the above picture. Would you wear something like that?

6. There Should be a Bride’s Side and a Groom’s Sidebride's side

To be honest, when you think about this rule, it’s pretty offensive towards your guests. They should be able to sit wherever they want! And there are always cases when one family is much larger than the other and your whole ceremony will end up looking quite weird. A great way to seat people at your wedding ceremony would be to simply have a sign that says Sit anywhere you like!

5. The Parents of the Bride Should Pay for the Weddingbride's parents

No family should be obligated to pay for a whole wedding. If your families want to help you out with the wedding, you should talk about it and decide who pays for what. Just remember that whoever pays, gets a say in the wedding, so if you want to make all the decisions yourself, then make sure you’re not letting anyone pay for anything.

4. You Must Leave for Your Honeymoon after the Weddinghoneymoon

One of the silliest wedding rules you can break is the one that says that the happy couple must leave for the honeymoon right after the wedding. In fact, this rule is quite bad, because you’ll both be quite tired. It would be much better for you if you waited a few days until the waters calm down. Also, dragging your luggage to your reception venue quite sucks.

3. The Music Should Please Everyonewedding guests

Silly, silly rule! No music is going to please everyone and if you want to have a really great wedding, then the music should please you and your significant other. Why make your aunt Mavis happy with an oldie, bug goldie, when you can make yourself happy with whatever music makes you happy?!

2. The Groom Should Not See the Bride before the Weddingbride and groom

Come on, it’s not bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding! Think of it like this: would you rather have such an intimate and emotional moment happen in front of a bunch of people or you prefer it to happen in private? If you want to capture that special moment, grab your photographer and have a photo shoot.

1. You Simply Must Have a Rehearsal Dinnerrehearsal dinner

Make your own rules when it comes to your wedding and rehearsal dinner. You can simply skip the rehearsal dinner. This rules comes from back when people’s engagement lasted for a few weeks and these dinners were made so that the parents and relatives would get to meet. This is no longer the case, so save a couple of bucks and skip them!

Are you getting married? What are your thoughts on these wedding rules you can break? Are you planning to break any of them or do you care about rules? Drop us a line in the comment section below and tell us what you think about this.
