10. McGratin Croquette
This particular burger was originally designed for the Japanese market. The reasons why this special McDonald’s burger failed because it contained shrimp, mashed potatoes and also macaroni. It was also being served on a cabbage bed and the name way different from the usual mc Donald burger name. Even so, it does still show up seasonal in Japan. In the rest of the McDonald world, this burger was a complete disaster.
9. The Hulaburger
The Mega franchise know today as McDonald’s was bought originally as a small time company and this happened because of Ray Krok, the man who bought it. Because it contains no meat the primary aim of the marketing campaign was Roman Catholics because they cannot eat meat in Fridays. Instead of the meat, a pineapple was placed along with the cheeze. The burger was registered to hit high in the disaster list on McDonalds worst products ever.
8. The McDLT aka McDonald’s Lettuce and Tomato
Who would want to go to McDonals and have to make their own food? Well, apparently this was the main idea of this burger. The packaging was a two-sided container that had the hot and cool burger components on the sides. The customer had to combine these in order to make the burger and the reason for the whole thing was allow hot to stay hot and cool to stay cool. . The meat and bottom half of the bun were prepared separately from the pickles, lettuce, tomato, cheese, ,top half of the bun and sauces.
7. McDonald’s Arch Deluxe
Presented as being a hamburger for adults — with a sophisticated and new taste. The ads for this amazing adult burger, Arch Deluxe, Ronald playing golf and pool while children showed their disgust for the adult burger. The total costs for the entire campaign was of $100. The result was not the one expected at all and major management changes were made as soon as the campaign stopped.
Too expensive for the capacity of nutrients it contained, making people still feel hungry after they had eaten this burger, the McLobster can still yet be found in some Canadian franchises. But honestly, who would associate McDonalds with a lobster sandwich? The name is too sophisticated to catch on the consumers. Too expensive, too French.
5. McHot Dog
The item appears since the 90s but never stuck to became popular enough. The hot dog was considered to be unhygienic at first but it seems it came to the point in which the purpose it to surprise and sell when it comes to McDonalds. In 2001 as a recent event, we can fin McDonalds hot dogs in Tokyo, and have been reintroduced for 2009. No matter how much the company wanted to produce hot dogs, the product failed every time. We are guessing that the McDonalds will always be know for the burgers, not hot dogs.
It seems that the 90s were a big turnaround for McDonalds because at the same time McHotdog did not made the best products, another delicious one appeared : The McPizza. Over the years it seems this company has tried to incorporate different varieties of food in order to increase it’s profits and customers. The pizza was not a big hit just like the hot dog. Most people already had a favorite pizza place that they regularly went.
Another not so great success was the McPasta! Yes, you read it right, they even thought of making pasta. Like the McPizza, people just weren’t interested in eating pasta at McDonald’s. This is the main reason why the product was not a success. In Australia and New Zeeland the product is being removed confirming that the McPasta is not so popular. The McDonalds “Italian” menu consisted of the above mentioned pizza but also included lasagna, spaghetti, fettuccine alfredo, and roasted chicken as entrees and on the side dish mashed potatoes and gravy souce offered and a vegetable medley. This combination not so popular as it was tasty.
Not only did McDonald try to incorporate some other specialties, but also tried to create some of it’s own. The failure of this one in particular was because not of what it contained but because of the name. McAfrica burger. This one had only two options, either to become a huge success without any know reasons as it wasn’t that tasty, either to fail miserably, like it actually did. The campaign was tested in Norway in 2002 and it almost made a riot, so McDonalds had to put donation boxes in all the stores that were selling the product. It seems that they did not think the name Africa and a burger combined, would lead to thoughts about starving children. Seems their customers had more imagination than the creation team. Widespread famine in Africa was all over the news the entire period the campaign was on.
1. McLean Deluxe
This particular product is number one in our list because it was a product designed for women. Or so it seemed. The product had low fat, so it appealed to women but the taste was awefull because the fat in the meat was replaced by water. It disappeared from the menu but not before it had a top place in our list, and no wonder it did. Men did not like the fact that there was no fat and women did not like the taste of this McDonald hamburger it seems.
