This Monday, How I Met Your Mother’s final one-hour episode will air. That’s it, folks! No more Barney, Ted, Robin, Lily and Marshall. From Monday on, we’re going to have to watch the reruns if we want our HIMYM fix. There are so many things we love about How I Met Your Mother, but the one thing that really strikes me the most is that aside from all the laughs it gave us, we really did learn a lot from this show. Today we’re looking at 10 important things we learned from How I Met Your Mother.
10. It’s OK to be a Hopeless Romantic
Ted is a hopeless romantic and while at times, that might be annoying, most of the times, it’s cute and funny. Ted taught us that it’s absolutely fine to be a romantic and that no matter how soppy you are, people are still going to be attracted to you!
9. Canadians are People, Too
There have been so many jokes about Canadians in How I Met Your Mother that viewers are starting to take them seriously, all thanks to Robin and her Canadian ways. But the show taught us that Canadians are people, too and they have feelings that can get hurt if we’re not careful. If you’ve offended a Canadian today, apologize!
8. How to Ward Off Depression
The best advice on how to ward off depression comes from the coolest character that ever lived: When I’m sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead! That piece of advice has to be brilliant and quite helpful, because there are many times in a person’s life when that attitude can really help.
7. Compromises Can Save Relationships
Lily and Marshall’s relationship is one of the best couple relationships on television. They’re funny together, they love each other to death and they make quite a lot of compromises to keep their relationship going. Could compromises be the way to a healthy relationship? We think they are!
6. Nothing Good Ever Happens After 2 AM
This is a gem of an advice that must be followed by everyone, young and old. So, if you ever find yourself partying or working after 2 AM, do yourself a favor and remember what How I Met Your Mother taught you and stop what you’re doing and go to bed, because nothing good ever happens after 2 AM, really!
5. It’s OK to Date Like There’s No Tomorrow
There have been people who counted how many women Ted dated. We’re not going to look into that, because we think it’s irrelevant. But what is relevant is that it’s OK to date like there’s no tomorrow. Don’t feel guilty if you’re not finding the one! Just keep dating and maybe you will, soon. Don’t lose hope!
4. Puzzles Aren’t Only for Dramas
Do you think that only True Detective can give you a puzzle worth losing sleep over? We think not! How I Met Your Mother has left us with some huge puzzles that will most likely never be solved. Like the one with the pineapple. We hope they’ll give us something on Monday, we’d hate it if we were to spend the rest of our lives without knowing about the pineapple!
3. Proclaimers Never Get Old
Be honest, doesn’t I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers seem like an awesome road trip song? It’s because of How I Met Your Mother, isn’t it? I truly believe that I could never tire of that song, just like Marshall.
2. Sometimes Friends Just Need an Intervention
How I Met Your Mother taught us that it’s OK to make silly interventions for our friends. Is your friend spending too much time on Twitter? Then gather all your friends and make an intervention. Bring cake, take photos and make a party out of it, while you’re at it! Who said interventions need to be somber?
1. Neil Patrick Harris is Brilliant
This is the most important thing we learned from How I Met Your Mother! We learned that Neil Patrick Harris is brilliant, a national treasure and that the world would be a sadder place without him. The man can act, sing and be awesome! And he’s gorgeous! Is there anything that man can’t do?
Are you excited about the How I Met Your Mother finale? Have you heard the latest rumors concerning it? We won’t give anything away, you can do your own research, but apparently some believe that’s it is going to be rough. That’s all we’re going to say!
