Alcohol is one of those taboo topics that is often misunderstood. When trying to explain what exactly it is that they see so malevolent in it, we have to admit that most people make some valid points. Being drunk isn’t exactly one of the most honorable and pleasant states you can find a human in. However, trouble only arises out of excess (like in the case of most things, actually). In many instances, it takes quite a few drinks to even begin getting dizzy.
But this happens because the majority of brands and types on the market contain only a maximum of forty percent alcohol out of the drink’s whole volume. There are some alcohol types, however, that can simply be heart attack inducing, let alone a sure way of getting drunk. These are the Top 10 Strongest Alcohol Types In The World.
10. Absinthe
ABV (Alcohol By Volume): 45% – 72%
Absinthe originated in 18th century Switzerland and it’s appropriately nicknamed “the green fairy” due to its, well, green color. Ever since its reputation as one of the strongest alcoholic drinks in the world has preceded it. Despite the fact that you can find bottles of absinthe with an ABV as high as 85%, most people don’t dare to go beyond 72%. That’s understandable since it has unfortunately managed to cause hallucinogenic effects before.
9. Bacardi 151
ABV: 75.5%
Rum is an incredibly popular beverage among cocktail lovers because some of the best-mixed drinks have it in their composition. Bacardi 151 is definitely the brand’s strongest type of alcohol, having an impressive alcohol by volume concentration of 75.5%. Like most beverages in this situation, rum is highly flammable, which makes Bacardi also the strongest proof alcohol. Despite the numerous warnings and the fireproof stainless steel flame arrester, there are still people who somehow managed to feel the (literal) fiery aftermaths of this palpitation inducing drink.
8.Devil’s Springs Vodka
ABV: 80%
This 151 proof vodka is one of the most famous (and infamous) of its kind, thanks to its reputation as one of the strongest alcohols in the world. Despite all of this, the high ABV isn’t an inconvenience since it’s a popular choice for creating some of the strongest alcohol shots you’ll ever have the fortune (or misfortune) of tasting. It’s very important to keep in mind that, if you ever want to taste this highly proof drink, you absolutely must dilute it first.
7. Sunset Rum
ABV: 84%
This beverage has written on its bottle (very explicitly) “Sunset Very Strong Rum.” I personally say that this doesn’t do justice to its scorching content, which makes it easily one of the strongest types of alcohol in the world. This brand of rum has won numerous awards over the years, but don’t get too eager about trying it out yourself. A simple sip of this flaming drink is enough to quite literally set your throat on fire.
6. Good Ol’ Sailor Vodka
ABV: 85%
Whoever keeps putting Russian vodka in tops which exhibit the strongest alcohol types in the world hasn’t gotten around to take a sip of the Good Ol’ Sailor Vodka. We can’t really blame them, though, as it’s a popular beverage in Sweden, but not as vastly known in the rest of the world. The content may leave your throat in pieces, but, at least, the bottle is ecologically friendly. Even more, the drink is organic, so, at least, you’ll know that this pure alcohol burning your innards is perfectly natural.
5. Balkan
ABV: 88%
This Serbian beverage definitely lives up to its reputation as the strongest alcohol in the Balkans. With an ABV of 88%, there’s no surprise that there have actually been reported deaths and instances of alcohol poisoning resulting from careless consumption. You certainly shouldn’t mess with any drink that’s a good candidate for the title of the strongest alcohol ever.
4. Pincer Vodka
ABV: 88.8%
If you look up the description for this fiery drink, you will see that it’s an herbal type of vodka flavored with elderflower and milk thistle. More than that, you can have a nice little taste of its country of origins, Scotland since the content is infused with water from Scottish mountains. Don’t let this nice description fool you, however. Pincer Vodka is as dangerous as one of the strongest alcoholic drinks in the world can get.
3. Bruichladdich X4+1 Quadrupled Whisky
ABV: 92%
The website of the company producing this heart-stopping beverage proudly displays the statement that “there is no one alive today who has ever tasted quadruple distilled single malt.” If that sentence alone isn’t enough to convince you of the deadly properties of this drink, then know that it was created to reproduce an ancient type of drink. It was said that only three sips were enough to kill you on the spot.
2. Everclear
ABV: 95%
The famed Everclear beverage is second on this list, separated by a mere one percent of ABV. It may be odorless, tasteless, and colorless, but it wholly makes up for all of it through its capacity to quite likely kill you if carelessly consumed. In fact, Everclear was featured in the Freddy vs. Jason movie as Freddy Krueger’s weapon of choice for killing Jason Voorhees. Jason Voorhees.
1. Spirytus Rektyfikowany
ABV: 96%
If you think trying to pronounce the name of this Polish beverage is troublesome, try pronouncing anything after taking a sip of this deadly liquid. What is the strongest alcohol in the world? Statistically, it’s this one. Many stores which sell it online accentuate the importance of never drinking it neat, as it can potentially cause serious damage.
I’m not an avid drinker and even when I do enjoy an alcoholic drink from time to time, it’s some sort of cocktail mixed with a type of alcohol with a peacefully low ABV. In a situation like this, I wonder just how much should one of these ridiculously strong alcohols be diluted? Diluted in order for me to be able to raise the glass to my lips without them catching fire, I mean. Probably a lot, because otherwise, they wouldn’t be the Top 10 Strongest Alcohol Types In The World.
